2009 (June) Subaru Forester EJ253 H4 2.5i Engine Swap

Asked by Chachkes May 30, 2018 at 01:13 PM about the 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5 X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What engines are possible to swap with a 2009 Subaru Forester (NO Turbo)
2.5l 16 valve, single overhead cam, 4-cyl? It would be nice to get the same
engine, but I am willing to try an engine swap if it's a fairly easy swap and
means I stay in the $2k range for cost. The old one died due to an oil leakage
and then it got fried.

Any year of the SOHC will fit, but I'd stick with the VVT later years so that you don't have to swap out other stuff or chase a different ECM.
