Does a 2009 Journey model SE use a FOBIK-type or Chip key?

Asked by noconick Apr 13, 2015 at 02:18 PM about the 2009 Dodge Journey SE FWD

Question type: General

The dealer sold us the car with one key. When we asked for the key fob, we were told we had to get that through the parts department. The parts department said that yr/mo. doesn't use a FOBIK-style or chip key (got ripped off there big time). Is that really the case?

Sadly, we're on the verge of making this our last Amercian-built car purchase!

It has to have one or the other. And there is a recall on the 2009 Dodge Journey fir ignition switch http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2009/dodge/journey/recalls/

This explains FOBIK: if you have a cut key it does NOT have FOBIK, so it is a chip key. http://www.lockprolocksmith.com/blog/2013/4/26/what-is-a-fobik.html

I had the recall installation done today. They put in 9183 wc 1 cbxzr03mab receiver wireless ignition node and gave me 2 cut keys that had to be programmed. Dissapointed still no remote and still have to use keys! I live in Hawaii and it took a year to get the parts.
