Pulley/ water pump

Asked by Jfulch Apr 29, 2014 at 11:19 AM about the 2009 Pontiac Vibe 1.8L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The pulley on my vehicle broke damaging the water pump, gasket, and belt. How hard is
this to fix? How long would it take to get fixed and is this a common problem? How could
this happen?

IVe never heard of a pulley breaking on a Vibe before and Ive been around a lot of them, but as Tom said, all parts can break it just depends on certain variables. I do know a lot of people with Vibes/Matrices/Corollas, have had trouble with particular after market "high performance" pulleys made by Unorthodox Racing. If yours happens to have been replaced with one of these by a previous owner perhaps, that could have been to blame. If you bought it new unless you actively sought out this performance pulley, then it's not in your car of course so no worries hahaha.
