2008 5.3 gmc oil pressure

Asked by Mike Aug 21, 2019 at 07:44 PM about the 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 SL Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son's GMC 5.3 pressure is like 10 psi and sometimes
lower the low oil light will come on  lifters tick sometimes.
Seen records were previously owner changed the oil
pressure sensor..not sure about screen ..shut truck off 5
min start pressure back up to 15 or so ..still low ..
sometimes it will stay about 15 at idle always down road or
rev up to 2 grand it's about 40 psi ..but at idle it's too low
.....should we change oil pump ? Pick up o ring ? Maybe
screen under sensor? Or is motor junk ? About 180 k miles
..I own one with 220 k and no problem same motor and yr

If you are getting noise then the pressure may actually be that low. I would use a mechanical gauge to see what is going on. Clean the screen too.

Thanks the pressure is low of say just wondering if the o ring on the pick up tube could cause it .?
