Try looking in your owners manual. When I disconnect the battery on my 4 cars I have to reset everything on the radio including my anti-theft code. It's possible yours has some kind ant-theft thing going on so a thief stealing the radio, disconnecting it from the power source (battery), would then have a worthless radio.

I have the same problem with my Camry Hybrid. Hybrids always have that issue. If you drain the battery, you have to re-program it. At the dealership, they charge $3,000. Absurd! I saw a YouTube video that the trick is to remove the negative cable and pump the accelerator 10 times. Still, I need help! Anyone? Thanks.

Some stereos have a security feature that won't allow it to start whenever you disconnect the power. Some car manufacturers have even taken this too far so that the car won't start either (I think the Chevy HHR does this). The documentation warns of this but many have never read the docs of got the car used without it. You are warned to jot down the password before disconnecting the power for any work on the car.
