I am considering a larger tire for my 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500. I was wondering how much it would cost to modify it with a 3" lift kit and larger rims/tires?

I was wondering how much a 3" lift kit with larger rims/tires would cost for my truck?  I'm not
a huge off-roader but every once in awhile I like to go where I'm not supposed to!  :)

Ok Tom you asked for an opinion so here it comes....Do NOT lift the Silverado. It was designed and engineered by people that actually know what they are doing....weight vs. suspension vs. roll-over testing. It is NOT meant to be modified, albeit guys do it all the time. But that reduces safety and your woman there in your avatar...do you really care about her very LIFE? Forget the lift and forget larger tires/rims.

Discount Tire has always helped me with plus sizes on everything! They have over-sized tire spec's. Consult them first.

Thanks DavidH25. I have heard this before and now that I think about it, it's probably NOT the best idea I've ever had. But I do want to put a good quality tire on it that will do good in snow, ice and heavy rain. What would you suggest? Walmart has like 5 different tires ranging from 80.00 on up to 200.00!! What types of things should I look for in tires. I hate to admit this but I am just not familiar with cars/tires - stuff like that! Thanks in advance for all of your help.

your truck was designed to meet the needs of the majority of the people that will be using it. putting a body or suspension lift on it will change how it handles. you just have to drive it like it is lifted. as long as it is reasonable, there is nothing wrong with a lift. you may need to go places others don't. when the engineers build a truck it is a compromise. just because someone has a high post count doesn't make them an expert. I have been selling/installing truck accessories for 18 years. there are several people on this site with high post counts that will try to make you think that anything custom is bad. most of the higher-end features on modern cars and trucks were custom installs only a few years ago.

I'm looking at putting a lift on my 2008 Chevy Silverado as well. Any suggestions on type of lift kit? I currently have 20" factory rims on it, but not sure what size of rim to go to, if any, and as for the tire, I've been looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler's. Any thoughts?

lift kits run any where from 1500-2000, and tires anythere from 800-1200- when it comes to this stuff, you get what you pay for. As David above mentioned, it will alter the handling, so take it a little easier in the turns and slow down so it doesn't roll.
