2008 f150 engine replacement issues

Asked by Bobbyhd Sep 19, 2016 at 08:40 PM about the 2008 Ford F-150 XL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently replaced the engine in my friends 2008
F150. It was a 4.2 exact replacement. Everything is
wired, bolted and done. Getting good fuel pressure,
good spark, will not start. Switch is holding in pla e
when cranking causing the engine to turn until
manually pulled back. A lot newer truck than I am
accustomed to working on. Has me a little baffled.
He bought the truck under the notion it had a
blown engine. Proba ly should have checked it over
before the swap. ECU??? Switch??? Not
understanding the firing and fuel with not cranking.
I assumed the timing to be correct since I never
went into the engine. Help, help, help!!!

Switch is bad but it should not keep it from starting up. Check all connectors specially the ones by firewall on passenger side to make sure they're fully plugged in and if they are, start by narrowing down the problem by spraying some Ethel or some flammable spray in the throttle body to see if it runs for a bit, if it does, u have a fuel problem if it doesn't, check voltage to ignition coils

Someone told me the switch can get out of position when going bad. Will allow it to turn over but not crank?? Will start with the switch and move from there. Really tight at the firewall for checking connections. Thanks!!

On my 2010 4.6 the EVAP solenoid went bad. When I would fill up then try to start the vehicle, the ignition would stay in the start position without starting and had to be manually pulled back. Engine would also occasionally kill while driving. When solenoid was replaced it worked fine. Also had to reflash the PCM. Seems there were three updates since new the dealer failed to install.

check and recheck all of the ground wires from the engine to the chassis, there is a small one on the rear of the motor that will keep the engine from starting, happened to me until i found the wire.
