transmission replacement

Asked by Mar 06, 2017 at 10:33 AM about the 2009 Toyota Corolla LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 corolla 150k. My dash light came on, so I went
to deal to check diagnosis. They told me I need a new
transmission, because it is burning the fluid. I ask them if I
can't put in new fluid. They told me, because I did not
replace the fluid after 30k I cannot replace it now. That
doesn't make much sense to me. Is that the only option I
have? I some help!

When transmission fluid is burnt it is usually too late do anything about it as the damage has already happened so that is why they say it needs overhauled. now you can try servicing the transmission, changing the filter and add a quart of TransX to the fluid during the refill procedure, this might give you some more drive time but it will be limited if it works at all. You will eventually have to fix the tranny or sell it as is where is.

Do not let then talk you into flushing the transmission, that is where thing really go bad it stirs up all the varnish and it winds up in small oil passages and really causes trouble.
