car alarm?
Is the factory-equipped immobilizer any different from the dealer-installed KARR security system with an automatic starter disable? Also, is it wise to have a security system with an "anti-scan microprocessor" that prevents thefts from duplicating the key code?

I would talk to the dealership about this.
I think the immobilizer system basically means that the key for the car has to have a chip or it wont start. Thats why the keys are so expensive to replace. So it is different than the KARR systems starter disable. I accidentally set off the alarm on my 08 CR-V EX-L Navi and was able to start it and drive off with the alarm sounding. LOL It was the middle of the night and I didnt even know my CR-V had an alarm. Once i got out of my neighborhood i figured out to press the unlock button twice on the remote to stop the alarm. I'd be leary of any 3rd party alarm system and and extremely cautious about who is installing and how they are installing it. If they have to cut wires in the electrical harness to wire the system it could void your warranty if you were to have any electrical issues with the car down the road.
