I have a 2008 Acura MDX. Two months ago, I hit the curb trying to make a right turn and marked my rim/tire (cut a title piece of the tire). Since that time, I've noticed a funny sound (whooshing) when my speed hits 42 mph...and up. I've taken my car to 5 mechanics and they can't find anything wrong (haven't taken it to the dealer). Friends have driven my car and all agree there is something wrong but also agree they've never heard a similar noise (including two former mechanics). HELP - i'm afraid to drive this car. PS. I did have the dealer install a timing belt and water pump about three months ago.

Are you hearing road noise? Tires normally make a small amount of noise when driving.

No - I know what you are talking about. I know my car very well and this noise is different. It is a low noise (like the car is revving while you are driving) but the performance of the car does not seem to be impacted. It does get a little louder the faster you go. You do not hear it until you hit 42 mph and it stops when you go below 42 mph. The sound does seem to dissipate when you take your foot off the gas pedal (but not always). My amateur race car friend drove it and definitely heard it. Another acquaintance (former mechanic) drove it and didn't hear it until we got out on the freeway. My girlfriends hear it right away. I think the noise is a low noise and men don't have good hearing (ha). The mechanics checked my wheel bearings and they are good. They hooked up to the electrical stuff - found no issues. Could I have messed up my axle (can you tell i go online a lot and i'm reaching?)? I am just afraid to take this car on a distance trip. :-(

Maybe you caused a small amount of damage to the bearing or to the CV joint on that side. It may make noise for many miles until it finally gives out. I you want to throw money at it have them replace the axle and bearing and get a new tire too while you are at it. I would also have them carefully check the wheel to see it there is too much runout.
