How do I tell if thermostat is bad

Is the car over heating or running too cool? If so it Might be the t-stat.

If the cars interior takes a long time to heat up with the heat on and your using more gasoline, then it could be stuck open. If it's stuck closed, your engine will overheat as soon as the car warms up, 10-15mins. Though that could be due to a none working fan or headgasket.
