Just bought a 2008 Audi A4 84k mi, how should a healthy Audi engine sound like? Sounds silly but I have no clue.

Question type: General

I've driven other cars that sound
quieter and idle smooth. How do I
compare apples to apples and know
if it's running good ? The car drives
great though, just idles a bit rough
and engine is not 100 quiet

It's normal for these to have ticking from the injectors. Do take care to use the proper specification oil meeting VW 502.00/505.00, and replace the timing belt and related parts at 100k miles.

if the engine is not running smoothly it would indicate that some of the sensors are most likely dirty and it probably needs new plugs. Get a tune up and check all the air ways. The most likely culprit is carbon deposits. Also clean your maf (mass air flow sensor) I would recommend the best Bosch plugs you can buy. As for timing belts they stoped using them in the audis early into 2006 so unless you have the 2.0L engine this is something you don't have to worry about.
