Its one of the door latches. The switch for the dome lights are built into to latches on most near vehicles now. You can try spraying P.B. Blaster or WD 40 into the latches then open and close the doors repeatedly about ten times. Sometimes it works as a temporary fix. Start with the drivers door but don't forget the tailgate either.

Spot on answer TransAm77. Even a 2008 the door has been opened and closed so many times, a conservative estimate, open/close 3x a day is about 8000 times. Even say half that.....still a lot of cycles.

Thanks Fordnut. I do miss the days of the old plunger style switches. Cheaper and most of the time easier to change.

Try TransAM's suggestion. My daughter's 99 had the same problem. I first flooded it with brake cleaner with the little straw attached. The gunk that came off was unbelievable. Then I gave it several shots of WD 40 and it did the trick. Still working great after two years.
