Solara -- 1999-2009 V6 has Belt 2002-2008 4-Cylinder has Chain That is from Toyota website. So it depends on whether your 2008 is a V6 or an I-4. Toyota sets no interval , except "inspect timing belt" at 60,000 miles. Some people go as much as 80,000 or more, but most, and those that know about such things, will have theirs changed at 60,000. The V6 is an 'interference" engine, meaning that if the belt breaks internal parts in motion will collide, and that = expensive If you have the 4 cylinder, no worries a chain will last a very very long time

A little more. To "inspect" means taking the timing cover off, and that's half the job. So might as well replace it while it's open and you wont have to worry about it for another 60,000. And while you are in there (or mechanic) replace the water pump and tensioner
