Loud when starts

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ever since it was new, our outback when cold makes a lot of noise when it first starts up and is idle,  Anyone else seen this?  Thanks!

Thanks for the help! We actually bough the car in March of last year, so it was doing it in the warmer weather as well. So who knows :)

At my shop a whole lot of my customers have Subarus and every single one of them sounds the same. They all sound like the have engine knock from the factory. But thats just the way they are. New and old all of them Ive heard the same noise.

Yes it is, and it sounds like a truck until it warms up.

We were ready to purchase a used 2017 outback and took the car for another test drive and it just seemed kind of loud. The dealer said maybe the air pressure was low which gave of less confidence in him. We walked away. Is there something we can ask to make sure the loudness is just the sound of a Subaru and not something else? Thanks
