how to fix the convertible top of a 2008 eclipse spyder

Asked by jamiegirl78 Aug 10, 2014 at 02:53 PM about the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I did the "reset" turn off and on..etc. that finally got the motors to work and the windows to go down when trying to open top, but it's not grabbing somewhere to open is there a way to fix this...let me say easy way my father used to fix everything mechanically for me but he just passed away so I am trying to do this on my own. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

2003 drivers side trunk behind skirt right by tail light assembly. Yours may be the same.

I'll check but from what I've heard is there is no switch behind the 2008

This worked: turned ignition key to ON position (not all the way to start engine, just to where radio can be turned on). Turned back off. Ignition back to On. Raised the windows. Turned ignition back to off. Turned key all the way to ignition and started engine. Pushed the Close button and the top functioned as expected. Saved a trip to the shop.

I have a 2007 Spyder. Tried the in off thing, no luck. I have a switch in the trunk and made sure everything is pushed in tight. Top still will not go up. Do I need to do something with the switch? I don't see a button... Please help. Thank you

Is there a third option? 2008 mitsy Spyder No switch in the trunk, the on/off solution only made me aware that the passenger window is also not closing. I've checked the fuses and reset via battery disconnect. Yet that rear flap still will not close and the window still doesn't roll up. Relay maybe?

D, did you ever get the rear flap to close? I tried the on/off key trick but didn’t work. Pick below shows the back flap where window is is NOT going down and I don’t know why? Anyone? Or how can I get it to go down manually before the back hood closes on it? Also does anyone know what the ignition button is for below the sub woofer in back seat? Is that the reset button for the top and if so how does that work? THANK YOU!

I did! There’s a small square piece that is supposed to drop down from the back half and on the passenger side it was overlapping and getting stuck. So when that happens I do have to get out of the car and manually push it back so that section folds down. I’d take a pic or video but it’s freezing cold and raining...haha
