2008 f250 5.4 shut off while driving

Asked by Mar 26, 2017 at 11:20 AM about the 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT Super Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving up hill at 60mph the engine gradually
lost power.  The truck shifted gears at 55mph and
ran at high rpm like normal but still losing power
until eventually the motor shut off. When I tried to
restart I just get one click from the solenoid. Radio,
lights, ect all working fine. Checked battery and
had 12.1 volts with key off. When turning the key to
start position it went down to 8 volts. Had the truck
towed home. Today I swapped the battery with one
on my other truck, same thing. Solenoid click.
Trying to figure out where to start

See if you can turn the engine by hand using a socket at the crank pully... if it don't turn the engine maybe locked up... remove the starter and see if the engine turns with it out. May also be a starter issue but that won't cause it to loose power and shut off
