putting new brushes in alternator Ford F250 diesel?

Asked by geojdjr Jan 20, 2016 at 03:45 PM about the 2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Alternator light comes on and goes out, no pattern. No light for weeks and then the light comes on while driving, on then off, then on and so forth.
New brushes, difficult to do, or should I just bite the bullet. The truck is an 07 with 70k miles.

I would say it is not worth it to do just the brushes but you could take it to a good auto-electric shop and have them do a complete rebuild on the alternator. Most rebuilts you buy are junk as they only replace the bad parts.
