fuel gauge doesn't work

fuel gauge reads empty most of the time will go up to 1/4 tank when I fill up then go to low fuel warning in just a couple of miles DIC reads gallons used but not miles to empty is the problem the gauge cluster or sending unit in tank

Check the voltage at the fuse terminal with a Volt Meter to ensure you are getting a full reading of voltage to the gauge. If this checks out you may have to replace the float sensor device located at the Top of the fuel tank itself. (Yes, this means dropping the fuel tank from its support straps)
