what would cause pcm plug to burn.

Ok I have an 00 dodge dakota 28th the 4.7 in
it. I just bought a New pcm and put it in.
When u started it I seen white smoke come
from the C plug on pcm. It melted the metal
tooth into the plug. It was the C12 tooth. I
think that goes to the auto shutdown relay
but not sure. Anyone know what would
cause that or had it happen to them.

Ok is there a easy way to find out where it is or how do u find something like that.

There are sensors that when testing them, in repair book it guards against accidental shorting the PCM by testing the wrong wire with 12v while testing others on that sensor/circuit. So my first thought is I would check all sensors & fuse box panel one by one until you find one with burn marks or shorts visible if not visible then start to test them with a multimeter you really need to get a repair manual at this point, until then if not visible at the sensor then check the wires from those all the way as far as you can on each then if still not found pull the dash to get to the rest of those wires. There is a hot wire touching a wire somewhere which can be inside a sensor as well.
