I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota and I know I need to change the water pump. In looking at eBay there are several kits that also come with the timing chain. My truck has 200,000 miles. Is replacing the timing chain something I should consider since I am already into the front end of the engine?

The truck I have is about a year old to me and I am only now starting to have repairs, so I
want to treat the truck as if I am going to use it for another 100,000 miles. I know I need a
new water pump and will replace the hoses, belt, and thermostat at the same time, but I
notice several of the kits include a timing belt set. How can I tell if I should replace it all at
once or not? Thank you, Harold

Change it now or you will be doing the same work twice...new antifreeze too.

it is common on many vehicles to do that. it makes sense, because you already have everything broken down. true, it might last a while longer, but it could go out next month and you would be doing the same work over again. go ahead and change it.

I have an 05 Dakota Quad Cab SLT with 3.7L (V6) and it has a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. When I start excellerating from a stop, the truck RPM shifts smoothly through first two gears then it quickly shifts through third to fourth gear which causes truck to bog down. I have press on gas pedal little harder and it shifts back into third and picks up speed then shift into fourth around 48 mph. I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota, 5.2L V8 engine, 4WD and im replacing the fuel filter but noticed that one of the rubber lines that connects to the metal fuel line to the filter had a small hole in it, i have all the stuff to replace it, but i cannot figure out how to get the clamp off on the one end that attaches to the metal part, it is a metal clamp, all the way around, and i just cant figure out how to get it off.
