head gasket

I got a blown head gasket on my 03 pontaic
Montana van,  the guy went to put on my head
gasket and said my motor wasn't no good. I had a
tested rannes on it and it only came back the the
head gasket was bad not the motor

So what is he saying is bad with the motor? Other than just saying it is bad there has to be a reason.
