Is the 2005 Mercury Montego a reliable vehicle?

Asked by First Dec 11, 2017 at 09:48 PM about the 2005 Mercury Montego Premier AWD

Question type: General

I found a good price on an AWD 2005 Montego,
and the user reviews are good, but I have heard the
CVT transmission is unreliable. However, a lot of
reviewers seemed to have good luck with the
transmission. Does anyone with experience with
this car recommend it?

I would not buy any car with a CVT. A 13 year old CVT is asking for expensive trouble. Not all Montego's came with the CVT though. Look for one with the 6 speed automatic.

Dang. I was really hoping for a cheap AWD car that didn't have a timing belt. Guess I will have to keep looking.

A Subaru around this year might be what you want. If you buy one with the 6 it will not have a timing belt.
