2002 BMW X5 4.4i smoke from tailpipe

Asked by Sovebr40 Jun 15, 2018 at 07:12 PM about the 2002 BMW X5 4.4i AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 BMW X5 smokes from the tailpipe after driving for 10 minutes and
stop at a light. It has a burnt oil smell. It seems to happen when the car heats
up and when stopped smoke comes out. Not sure of the color, more whitish. I
have had the valve replaced, oil breathers, and gasket resealed. Mechanic
stated it the oil that leaked in the muffler and it has to burn off.

Please any suggestions.

If the smoke went away and did not come back then your mechanic is probably correct. If this happens all the time you may have an oil leak or an oil consumption issues in your engine.
