Why is there a strange sound under my 02 Lincoln Ls v6 premium

Well I just bout the car from my grandma. So
make long story short it been a while since
she been in it I said at least 5 years anyways
(I had the alternator replace).well as I drive  
around going to work and run errands I get
like as if, I hit a bump or something my car is
a goner how can I fix this problem

Gotta describe the sound better - metal on metal, grating, grinding, clunking, front, back - you get the idea.
