What should I do or what is wrong with vehicle?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Toyota 4 runner and the dash lights came on  vsc Trac, vsc off, and check engine light. So I took it to the auto parts store and they put the machine on it and it showed codes P1444 and P1441. What do you think the problem is. We put a new gas cap on about 1 yr. ago and also disconnected the battery cables and the lights went off for 2 days and came back on. Any suggestions. Thanks

Those are vacuum-controlled exhaust valves at the rear of the heads, are likely sticking open, eventually they'll fail and not close at all. you can replace them (very expensive, they're 600 each for parts alone), you can install a block off plate kit (less expensive), or you can remove, clean, and reinstall them. Labor is a big factor in the cost, you do have to remove the upper intake to get to them, but it's not horrible, find a reputable mechanic with minimal overhead, like a mobile mechanic who can do the work in your own garage.
