EPC light

We have a 2004 VW Beetle with a 2.0L engine.
Recently the EPC light came on. After researching
what that was, I replaced the throttle body because
it was not responding when the car was started.
This did not remedy the EPC light, nor did it truly fix
the problem. When idling the car seems to be fine
except that pressing the accelerator does nothing.
When the car is shifted out of park and into reverse
or drive the car sometimes will sudddnly lurch
forward or back then the RPMs rev way up. My next
guess is the accelerator sensor pedal. Are there any
other ideas? I’m also not sure of the trim package
on the car, whether it’s a GL or GSL. It is a
convertible and I know sometimes that makes a
difference.
