EPC light

Asked by GuruV5DKL Aug 06, 2018 at 07:38 AM about the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle GL 2.0L Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2004 VW Beetle with a 2.0L engine.
Recently the EPC light came on. After researching
what that was, I replaced the throttle body because
it was not responding when the car was started.
This did not remedy the EPC light, nor did it truly fix
the problem. When idling the car seems to be fine
except that pressing the accelerator does nothing.
When the car is shifted out of park and into reverse
or drive the car sometimes will sudddnly lurch
forward or back then the RPMs rev way up. My next
guess is the accelerator sensor pedal. Are there any
other ideas? I’m also not sure of the trim package
on the car, whether it’s a GL or GSL. It is a
convertible and I know sometimes that makes a
difference.

Yes could be the accelerator pedal sensor but also check for blown ( ETCS ) Electric Throttle Control System fuse.

I own a 2014 beetle 1.8 convertible with over 120,000 miles ( high mileage ) EPC light comes on frequently car looses power, very frustrating turn off engine restart all good ..this happens daily ....changed plugs and a oxygen sensor ,cleared computer codes , same thing ..mechanic told me to use 91 octane and see what happens ...well the epic light has not come on for about four months since using higher octane I know this frustrating to many with this issue ,just passing on info
