4wd 2005 Tahoe

Asked by PolarPretzel Jan 22, 2019 at 01:42 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe and have yet to
use the 4wd on it. In my 2001 F-150 you had
to shift to neutral before switching to 4wd.
How does it work with the push buttons
and/or auto 4wd on the Tahoe? Any feedback
is much appreciated. Thanks.

You can switch to Auto at anytime, but to shift it into the 4HI or 4LO selections you must be stopped and the engine running, set the park brake and put the transmission in nuetral and make the selection, step on the brakes pedal as you release the park brake, then make your transmission gear selection. Now one thing about these rigs is any of the 4WD selections are meant for off road or slick conditions only, do run them on dry or hard surfaces. On my 05 Yukon I use the auto selection when it's really raining, and mean really raining, I use 4HI only off road or more than 2 inches of snow, I use 4LO only of road and no faster than 10 MPH. Never use overdrive gear when in any selection except the 2WD. HTH

Suppose to say do not run it on hard or hard surfaces.
