no 4 wheel drive and howling/grinding sound

i have a 2004 ford expedition 4.6 had growling /gringing noise but goes away
when turning left also have no 4 wheel drive the indicator lights light up when
going into high or low but only back tires spin any info would be great i
thought it was wheel bearings that what is sounded like but changed them still
have sound

The vacumn hubs may not engaging all the way. Did you also replace them with the bearings? They are designed like interlocking fingers and if they have partial vacumn to them it will cause them to make one of the worst sounds on earth. The vacumn is controlled by a solenoid on the firewall with a dual tube to the back of the hub assembly.
