2001 ford explorer sport

My ford runs excellent then acts as though its running out of gas then dies.
After some time days even it will start only to trick me once again. It is breaking
my boyfriends wallet and my heart. Plz reply asap because its broke down away
from home again with the new gas I just put in.

When it does not start do you hear the fuel pump humming in the gas tank?
