Repair hatch back door handle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought an '01 Explorer Sport. I tried to open the rear hatch door and the handle is in place, but
it doesn't have any type of resistance, hence broken. I took off the door panel to take a look inside. I
did this because the door ajar alarm and light go on and off while I'm driving.  The interior lights
remain on after I've powered down the vehicle and locked it.  I have to push on the driver side of the
hatch back door (with some force) to shut them off.  If I could get it open once, I can close it fully and
could care less if I ever have it open again as long as the door ajar alarm and lights don't send morse
code as I'm driving down the highway!  Suggestions? Web links?

Also, there's no button in the glove box to open the rear door.
