2003 Ford explorer tranmission

Asked by Brooke Jan 17, 2017 at 06:01 PM about the 2003 Ford Explorer XLT V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 Ford explorer xlt automatic...just put in a new
Transmission...drove fine for a few days then as i
was driving down the road it wouldn't go, the
engine would only rev. Will go in park and if put in
neutral you can push it and it rolls... But when put
into gear it will not move but the engine revs. The
hear shifter shifts the gears and we've even put it
into gear manually.  Any ideas before I buy yet
another transmission??

If you just purchased it, then take it back and have them fix it....

What does "new" mean? Remanufactured, rebuilt, or junkyard.

You probably have a 5R55 W-N-or S transmission. Sounds like for servos went out (notorious for these transmissions) resulting in the servo rod slamming into the band and breaking it. I suggest you purchase a remanufactured tranny as the bores on the servo are probably worn out and need replacing. Check the net, there are probably videos explaining the problem.
