Years ago my 03 explorer was doing the same thing, except the ABS light was not on. The light would come on and maybe go off. Contacted my tranny guy and he stated to bring the car in when the light was on and do not shut off the engine. Hooked up a reader then told me to wait for it. Replaced some part easily accessible in about thirty minutes for less than a hundred bucks. Best to have a pro check it out before more damage occurs.

I have a 2004 explorer V-6 When I take off from first to second gear it does not want to shift unless I let off the gas and am going 30mpg. After the second time doing this my o/D light starts blinking and I have no over drive what so ever.

I still can drive high speeds and it does not seem be getting worse but I do not have over drive.
