Strange Noise & Jerking

Asked by Dominique Jul 16, 2017 at 10:28 AM about the 2004 Ford Explorer Limited V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer. I am
experiencing 2 issues with it and need help. I
bought it used but it currently only has
119,500 miles or so. I was not aware when I
got it that my transmission system was
enclosed therefore I have to dipstick to
check fluid level or no cap to unscrew to add
fluid. First issue: when I accelerate vehicle,
truck makes  a jerking feeling before it
actually kicks in gear like it should. It only
does this after I have come to a complete or
almost complete stop and speed back up.
Second issue: When I press the gas while
running my ac, truck makes a weird noise
while gaining speed. For the most part, this
only happens when ac is on and gas is
pressed. Do these issues have anything to
do with each other and am I looking at
having to replace my transmission???

The transmission needs to be checked when warm, there is a level check screw at the bottom of the trans pan. Unscrew the torx screw and fluid should drop out, of the hole. Don't unscrew the big 21-22 mm bolt that's the drain plug. Fluid can be added through the torx hole until it starts to drop out with the car running
