What causes your car to start missing?

Asked by laikynsnanna Feb 21, 2018 at 01:28 PM about the 2003 Toyota Camry XLE V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last week , while sitting at a red light, my car started missing.  As I started to
pull forward, it almost died.  Yesterday, while sitting at a red light, it died.  I
put in a can of fuel cleaner after the incident last week.  My check engine
light has been on forever.  It always reads gas cap, which has been changed
multiple times.  The code reader said catalytic converter.  Is there a way to
know if it's that or something else?

Thank you for your help.

Converter could of broke apart and clogged exhaust causing a misfire.

have someone rev the engine and see if healthy blast of exhaust comes out the tailpipe , the code tells you where the trouble is not what to replace , plenty of help on the internet keep looking

Typically we would run a exhaust system pressure test to determine a restriction in the exhaust system. Absent this equipment one might remove the pre CAT o2 sensor and then road test the vehicle for a very short distance. Any improvement in performance indicates a bad CAT.

B1....make model year? Any warning lights on or flashing when the engine is running?

Ok...we need to know what Codes are stored in this vehicles computers. Some Auto Parts Stores will provide this service for Free. Make sure you write down the Code numbers and descriptions. Get back with details.
