Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have taken my 2005 Mustang to 2 different mechanics and asked why it is
shifting so hard (it kicks hard from P to D and from P to R).  The first guy told
me that he thinks it needs flushed and the seals replaced, and that only a
Ford dealership could do so.  The second guy says he can repair and flush it
in his shop (he is NOT a Ford dealership).  I do not know who to believe.
Does anyone have any info about this?  Does a Ford dealer have to be the
ones who perform this repair?  Thanks.

I would try a fluid change and see if that helps. Skip the flush which may damage the transmission.

If that does not work I would lean towards a bad solenoid or other electronic device such as a sensor. A good transmission shop should be able to diagnose the problem.
