what was first year for the 429 Boss

i have had several discussions on this issue i believe 1969 was first year for ford to
introduce the Boss 429,1 am i correct?

The odd thing about the Boss is that the 69 429 maintained the scoop at the top of the rear quarter panel like the regular Mustang, but 69 Boss 302, didn't have it, this was filled in like on a 70 . This screws up a lot of people because that is such an instant identifier for 69 Mustang. I have never heard why they did this . My guess is because they raced the 302 in Trans Am and aero was more important, Maybe that little scoop caused a bit of drag?
