Two thing come to mind here are a failing water pump or a clogged radiator. I do not see the correlation between the fuel filter and the overheating issue. You may need and is a good idea to change filters but trying to answer with the original issue. A system flush may be needed and may or may not help. Sometimes radiators just get scaled up enough to act like a clogged filter with all the tiny openings. The other idea concerning the water pump is that the impeller is worn or may be leaking slowly from the weep hole and you did not notice that yet. You can sometimes check for bearing wear with the serpentine belt off can see if there is any wobble in the pulley. Would also do a pressure test on the cooling system. Good Luck!
