What nut (i.e. size and thread and type) do I need for the power steering pump pulley?

Asked by Camille Nov 01, 2015 at 12:04 PM about the 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need a replacement power steering pump nut for the power steering pump
pulley to stay attached.  Mine fell off and it won't work without it.  I need the
exact part number and where I can buy it for answering the question.

Hmmm...the pulley and shaft are splined for the torque requirements, using the M12 x 1.2mm x 19mm drive locknut only to hold in place laterally. So ANY 12x1.25 will work; just adda washer to mate against the pulley nicely. The OE with built-in waher is available for about $8 from Dorman...or less from a good hardware store. (Note: 19mm=3/4", but a larger drive would be fine.)
