Ford Expedition check engine light when accelerating.

Asked by Danny Mar 19, 2017 at 02:20 PM about the 2007 Ford Expedition EL Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 expedition and every time we step on
the gas the check engine light comes on. It doesn't
if we speed up gradually but it does if we have to
step on it hard to merge on highway. Also when
turned on in makes a weird noise that I've looked
into and it might be the timing. Any other
thoughts?

May be time for a tune-up. The flashing check engine light means there is a cylinder miss fire. Possible causes; Faulty spark plug (s), Faulty ignition coil (s), Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s), Intake air leak, Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted, Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection, Ignition coils harness is open or shorted, Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection, Insufficient cylinders compression, Incorrect fuel pressure.

In my experience this is either a bad coil or a bad spark plug.

The noise sounds like the engine vibrating like the whole truck shakes. I really don't know how else to describe it. But once I drive it then park then turn it in on again it doesn't do it any more

Be careful changeing spark plugs. I have a 2008 ford exspedition king ranch. Every plug broke dureing removal. Special tool needed to get out plugs. These suvs along with other fords with 3 valve 5.4 liter engines are known for this

Danny, whatever happened with your Expedition, I have 2011 expedition and it’s been doing it over a year, it won’t do it when I take it repair shop. So I’ll have no resolution. Thanks, Buddi

I have a 2010 ford exp. Limited and I done spent 4500.00 on motor repairs at the Dealership and my truck is having the same problems. The dealership mechanics can't tell me NOTHING. I done had the timing change changed all cylinders and plugs and coil s and wires .plus all sensors. And its still running shitty. With all those brand new parts. Its just horrible.n all done spent 5700.00 on this motor .ford knows these motors are bad. And BTW MY MOTOR WENT BAD AT 76520 MILES.

I have a 2003 ford expedition. started running a little rough, service eng. light is on, 5 days later starts squelling like a syrpintien belt, replaced belt and altinator, helped 3 days, everything started again, replace altinator 2nd time, service eng. light out, now on top of all the above symptoms, battery light is on, squeeling has become much less.
