noise in engine

i have a  07 impala ss with a 5.3 fuel management engine and it started having lifter sounding noise about 700 miles on it  it started making that noise in south caralina in december and it made that noise up until june 07  the noise has faded away sinse the wheather got up into the 70 and 80 i dont know if it is piston slap or lifter  or silanoid

Hi romack, If the temperature where you live changes drastically during the winter months you would be smart to change your oil to something thinner. For instance, if you typically use 10W-40 you might try using 15W-40 during the winter months. If this is the problem you've been driving on "thicker oil" for the last several months possibly causing internal damage with every stroke of the piston. Hope this helps!
