My car says 98,000 on the odometer. When I put the VIN number into mycarfax, it shows 200,000

Someone probably changed the gauge cluster to make millage seem low to sell and the last reported is 200k
I would contact CF and tell them about the discrepancy.
Is your odometer correct? Has it been replaced? What do your maintenance records show (mileage is recorded for service intervals typically)? How about the title, has it been transferred in the past with mileage noted? (Whatever mileage is showing on the title is the mileage the title bureau has on record.) Carfax pulls its records from insurance, the DMV, and voluntary forms, if there was ever a claim made on this car or a title xfer then Carfax has the mileage as of that claim.
Look for an odometer replacement sticker on the driver's side doorjamb. What's supposed to happen when the odometer is replaced and the new one can't be set to match the old odometer mileage a sticker is placed on the driver's side doorjamb showing the date of the replacement and the mileage that was on the old odometer. But if you can absolutely verify the mileage you can contact Carfax. They make mistakes too. Hope that helps! Jim
