Chevy colbat won't start

Asked by Sep 11, 2017 at 05:58 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt 2LT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Will the anti theft system refrain my car from
starting ? I don't think it's the battery because the
lights and dashboard come on but when I turn the
key to start it , it make a ticking sound . What may
be causing my car not to start ?

If it is a rapid clicking sound then it's telling you that the voltage is too low to engage the starter, could be the battery, dirty terminal connections, bad battery cables or grounds. As this is an 07 do not disconnect the battery or any cables without using the preset saver tool, or you will windup at the dealership and paying at least a hundred bucks for a computer system reflash. Get a battery charger and a voltmeter, if you think it is the battery and charge it overnight and then see if it takes a charge and then will fire off. Battery voltage should be between 12.5 and 13.2 or slightly higher voltage just sitting with everything off, once the engine starts the voltage should be 13.8 to 14.2 ish depending on the batteries total charge.
