Does my 2008 Ford Escape need a Neutral Safety Switch?

Asked by May 03, 2017 at 04:58 PM about the 2008 Ford Escape XLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Ford Escape will sometimes start and sometimes not. I replaced
the ignition switch with the same problem last year. It started doing again
but worse. I have noticed it is less likely to crank when it is hot outside.
Everything powers up and can sometimes get it to crank by pressing the
key in firmly. I have been told by several people t that it could be the relay
switch. This has been a great vehicle for me, almost 200,00 miles, motor is
still strong. This problems seems to be very common. Thank you for your
help. Stranded.

Yes it does need a nuetral safety switch, that switch is also, the gear selector switch, if it were to be taken out the tranny won't shift properly, the engine just won't act as it should and there could be other unforeseen symptoms that show up and even a check engine light.
