07 Santa Fe won't start after refueling

Asked by Mar 07, 2017 at 03:11 AM about the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L GLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I open the gas tank in my 07 Santa Fe it sounds like
it bubbling/boiling after I fill up it takes a few turnovers to
Get it to start (as if it were the starter) and when it finally
does it starts to hesitate (rpm idiling up and down) and
sometimes it shuts off again, it's does this a few times as
well before I finally get it one and wait for the idiling to
steady before I can get into gear to drive off. Has anyone
else gone thru this issue as well. Please help with any
suggestions to what it may be? Also my gas tank needle
doesn't mark the gas but I know what is due to the
sensors.

The EVAP system needs to be looked at. Due to over filling of the gas tank the gas will get into the system and saturate the charcoal filter in the canister, causing this. When refilling a car with gas, you are suppose to stop refilling when the gas pump nozzle first clicks off.

It could also be one of the 2 purge control valves located in the box under the car along with the filter. They tend to fail from overfilling when you clickn the pump habdle to round out the gallons or dollars on the pump.

Purge valve. Had the same problem. It's located by spark plug wires
