Lights going off
The cruise light flashes when the CEL is on just to get the attention of drivers who don't watch for solid lights. When the CEL comes on, it disables the cruise feature, and the CEL can come on for myriad reasons, from a loose gas cap to emissions problems. Best to go to a car parts store and have codes read, probably free, to find out.
Yup...just scan it.
Just guessing that you might have a PO420 (catalytic converter insufficiency) CEL. If so, check with SOA to see if you can squeeze a free front cat out of them. If not, and there are no operating symptoms, just ignore the 420 and erase it prior to annual emissions inspections or similar. Thousands of mid-noughts 2.5i owners chase their tails with this one.
