I found that the 84 Buick Regal had the 3.8L, 4.1L, and the 4.3 diesel - all are V6's.

I don't think there were any, actually as most had been replaced by the 3.8L V6 which easily matched the V8's. Earlier 80's was around the time that V8's started going out. A little more info is always helpful, but I pulled up my spec sheets for all the models that I am aware of and here you go, this should cover what ever you are looking at. Is your year is right, for sure, knowing what kind of actual Buick it is would be helpful to come up with a real answer. For an example, is it a Grand National or just a coupe? In 1984 the Grand National The turbocharged 3.8 L became standard and was refined with sequential fuel injection, distributor-less computer controlled ignition, and boasted 200 hp (150 kW) at 4400 rpm and 300 lb·ft (407 N·m) of torque at 2400 rpm. I hope you might recognize a Grand National if you saw one?? The trouble with my Grand National question is that there weren't a lot made so it is always a great find as there were only 5,204 Turbo Regals were produced that year, only 2000 of which were Grand Nationals. Because this was the first year production of the computer controlled Sequential Fuel Injection and Distributor-less ignition, this is often considered the year/model that started the development of the legendary intercooled Grand Nationals. The performance of this package was well ahead of its time and the “Little V6” easily matched that of the bigger V8’s. Quarter mile (~400 m) performance was listed at 15.9 seconds at stock boost levels of 10 psi (0.69 bar) My 3800 supercharged V6 has trapped at 12.5 and is my daily driver while I build on two other Regal GS and a SLP GSX. From my files I have the following for you to help you know what you might be looking at. Also, keep in mind that DIY's like myself are scared to slap anything into anything. So, you might be looking at a car that someone slapped a V8 into, thinking, they are getting more horsepower, which isn't always true. I'll race nearly any V8 right now, LOL.... here's some stuff as I love Buick's.. I know, WTF dude, that's one hell of an answer. LOL Everyone that know me know better than to ask me about anything unless they are really ready for a length answer. So, now that you know that, something occurred to me and that would be that it is not unusual, at least in my world and that the GM platforms allow for easy modification between there vehicles, I went back and looked at all GM vehicles for that year and here you go with what engine would swap to a 84 regal. Engine 196 cu in (3.2 L) Buick V6 231 cu in (3.8 L) Buick V6 252 cu in (4.1 L) Buick V6 265 cu in (4.3 L) Pontiac V8 301 cu in (4.9 L) Pontiac V8 305 cu in (5.0 L) Chevrolet V8 307 cu in (5.0 L) Oldsmobile V8 This is from 1984 and this is where a V8 swap would have came from for a Buick Regal, as the platforms are the same, nearly kind of sort of...... Bye good luck,
