Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If timing chain broke on 2007 93 2.0tu Saab
but wasn't driving is motor shot

1 Answer

It's a chain driven interference engine, if it was running, the valves probably tapped the pistons. But you say the engine wasn't running, so I'm wondering how you diagnosed a chain problem.. Timing chains don't usually break, but components like tensioners do, and the chain might have just jumped a tooth. Have a mechanic look at this and see; he might have to pull the head to be sure about damage, but a scope in the sparkplug hole should make everything visible.
