Timing Belt Replacement Recommendation For 2004 Acura TL

Asked by freddie0408 Jun 21, 2013 at 11:45 AM about the 2004 Acura TL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Acura manual recommends 90,000 miles to replace timeing belt.  Car hasn't been driven much, so I only have approx. 67, 800 miles on it over 9 years of ownership.

Dealer advises me that Acura recommends replacement at 90,000 miles or every 6 years because of possible deterioration over time.  He told me that they also replace the water pump and coolant as part of the timing belt service.  He says the cost will be approx. $800.

My TL owners manual says 90,00 miles with no mention of a time requirement.  Is the 6 yr. recommendation from my dealer valid?  The car is in great shape and still runs and looks like new.

Thanks for your input and help.

Thanks, Tom. I also checked some other reputable sites and they all agree with what you say........this service is basically overdue at this point and it's a gamble from here on in. So rather than risk destroying the engine, I'm going ahead with the replacement next week. Thanks again for your help.
