97 Legacy Outback CD changer

The 6CD changers are notoriously fussy. If you're handy you CAN carefully disassemble it fully and gently pull out the offending CD and test after reassembly. There are guys out there who rebuild these things for a lofty $199, so that's out. I have a few leftover single and double-DIN OE Subaru head units you can have for $50 or $75 if you want to start over with a newer unit. Let me know via private email. Note that the SINGLE CD units are generally more reliable than the 6CD simply because of simplicity. Oh...if you can't find a CD slot then you have (or it had if removed) an older 2 pc system consisting of a simple control unit in the dash and a remote 6CD slave changer usually mounted either under a seat or in the cargo area. Again, if the slave changer is inoperative or missing it's just easier to completely start over with a newer integrated head unit per above. Time to clean out the garage....

Further: the slaves use 6CD cartridges. If yours is inoperative do NOT try to repair...it's a dead dinosaur.
